Welcome to The Moto Curious
Listen to a sneak peek:
We're here to make motorsports more accessible, one question and answer at a time. I'm your host, Sara Lobkovich -- an avid motorcyclist, level one track day instructor in training, and newbie podcaster. I've been riding for about seventeen years, and have been an avid rider for the last five. I took up track riding to increase my safety and skill for the street, and haven't looked back: these days, my Aprilia Tuono and I are staying track prepped, riding with a local track day org as staff.
It hasn't always been easy for me in this sport -- I wasn't a natural. I started riding for unusually practical reasons: to be able to jump the ferry line, while commuting to grad school on the Washington State Ferries. Going fast, especially on a track (or exceeding the legal speed limit on the street) was never my mission. But after years of scaring the crap out of myself street riding, some friends finally convinced me to start doing advanced rider training, and after spending a day here and there with different track day orgs I found my people, my home, my mentor, my coaches, and my friends.
Now, I feel extremely lucky to be pursuing even more advanced training, all the while loving my role as the "Welcome Wagon" with our track day org, as an ambassador to underrepresented communities in motorsports, and as a rider instructor for track day participants who don't happen to arrive at the track magically knowing everything there is to know about track riding. Riders who are nervous; riders who have an intimidating first out; riders who wrestle with the confidence to track ride: these are my people. So it's a logical next step for me to spend a little bit of time in this format -- providing a space for questions and answers that will help you ride, ride more, or ride more skillfully, whatever your goal is.
I'm collecting questions right now, to address in future episodes, and would love to hear from you -- what questions do you have about starting to ride? Starting to track ride? Or what stands in the way of you riding more, or more skillfully? Send your questions my way, and you may just be part of an upcoming episode!
